Default G16 starting issues

I have been having this issue with my cart. Sometimes my cart will not start and I have to roll the clutches manually. Usually after that it'll start up. I've put new brushes in it already. Any ideas?

1st & easiest thing to look at is battery condition and/or dirty or poor high current connections. A weak battery will fag out with motor on compression stroke. Roll it past compression and the battery/starter will have enough juice to get the engine rolling and then usually have enough steam to continue cranking. (Dirty or poor high current connections can act the same.) What is the battery open circuit voltage after resting a bit. Fully charged it should be around 12.74 volts. Put the battery on charge for 3 hrs or so, then give it a try to see how it acts. Make sure the starter/gen is charging the battery. Voltage regulators can be a problem. Let us know - RAY

Where is the voltage regulator located and is there a way to check it?

I would check all the high current connections first, including the old battery cable terminals. Those battery terminals sometime get a black non conductive coating on the inside of them that should be removed. A large rat tail file works pretty good for this as well as some medium grit sandpaper. Make em shine on the inside!! The voltage regulator is mounted on the front of the rear fenderwell (driver side) and is a block approx. 1 x 1 x 1" (it is solid state and non-repairable). Please note that you don't need to find the regulator in order to check it. You check for proper regulator operation by placing a voltmeter (an analog meter with a needle works best) across the battery (+ to +, - to -) then run the cart at med-high RPM. This is easiest if you put cart in neutral and run it. You should get a voltage reading at your battery of 13.5 - 14.5 volts at fairly high RPM. What is the voltage of your battery ? (Even though it's new it could be discharged if you've been using your cart). Let us know. - RAY

Ok so I cleaned all the connections with contact cleaner. I even cleans the armature on the starter. I did not have my volt meter so I could not check voltage. But now even when the motor isn't on compression stroke the starter sometimes makes a partial revolution then seizes up and makes like a grinding noise. If I click on and off with the accelerator it will eventually start up. I'm thinking maybe the starter is shot. Help please!!!
