2000 txt drive clutch problem
Hello all, I need some advice on drive clutches. I have a fresh 295 robins engine and noticed about two months ago it wouldn't climb steep hills that it would before. I noticed that when the drive clutch would start to close up it would just spin on the belt. SO new belt (gates 6021) went to same hill and same thing, I know this because I've been riding on a plank to view the clutches. This weekend decided to put the tuning spring in the drive clutch, 28 degree ramps on driven and traction control kit. Guess what? same thing, belt on drive clutch closes in (higher rpm now) and just slips NO GO! HERE IS MY QUESTION, the surfaces don't seem consistant like a hump in there, so I want to put an aftermarket High performance clutch on the stock motor (taper shaft) and still use the starter generator and possibly Big Block it later and still be able to use the new drive clutch. Any suggestions????

Re: 2000 txt drive clutch problem
still looking for help guys, I replaced the stock drive clutch with ez 9035 which is a comet 94c ribbed and yet another new belt. The new clutch closes in on the same steep hill and it just spins on the belt and I'm not going anywhere. How can I make the faces of the drive clutch STICK to the belt????
Please help |

Re: 2000 txt drive clutch problem
The secondary regulates the grip on the belt, or belt tension. More spring in there makes the belt not slip, however if you don't have enough power the primary will not engage all the way and it will slip anyway. This should not happen until you get to 4mph or something and the engine has bogged down. Not enough power you just can't go there, or you can try to mod the secondary like a yamaha and cut the sheave. This makes them closer together and pushes the belt out the top, makes a lower 'low gear'. Not sure you can on an ezgo. You can run a 1/16 wider belt than stock that can help do the same thing. With a lower initial gear it will climb better because rpm will be higher vs ground speed.
You can sand the inside of the sheaves with fine sand paper (maybe 180 or finer). You only want to rough it up - don't sand metal off. Not sure that is your problem though. |
