G2, bad generator or bad regulator
I had replaced the battery and terminals not long ago. Cart will start with a jump box. It will stay running, stop, restart drive it around and other times it stalls shortly after box removed. I am not sure what to test if someone could post an idea or a link. Thank you in advance.

Re: G2, bad generator or bad regulator
I'd start with the sticky at the top of the page. "So your yami won't turn over" Or, you will have to search and read, (to much typing to explain all the could be situations.)
Bad battery, VR, brushes, loose or dirty wire connections, bad ground, coil, ignition, key switch etc. |

Re: G2, bad generator or bad regulator
First thing to look at is connections, any and all of them can have issues....but are easy to fix. You have a start on this already. You can get a $5 DVOM and read battery voltage, you should have over 12 with a charged battery. What does it do when you hit start, when it is running, rev it up in neutral, etc, and that will tell you some things.
Note I had to file out the batt terminals on mine and file the battery posts to get it to work again. They looked clean but even a wire brush would not make them work. The ground cables are a particular issue on yamaha carts, as they don't use the frame for ground. Check all of those. You key powers the pedal and it powers the ignition and start solenoid, make sure the solenoid is on when it wont run, you should hear it click with the pedal. A bad VR cam make it quit running, iirc you can unplug it. G2 usually have a metal box its adjustable VR, G9 have a solid state one that is a sealed block, they are both on the driver rear wheel well inside next to the buzzer. You could have bad brushes in the gen making for lots of current to start it, that usually shows as big voltage drop everywhere on start and can make the cables hot. Bad connection can also make that connection hot when trying to turn it over and you will see low voltage on the gen but good voltage on the battery when that happens. When you rev the cart in neutral you will see the voltage go up to 13+ when it charges, not so much at idle speeds as the gen does not load at low rpm. Also check the fuses they usually have a 12v fuse and a ground fuse they are 10a or something, check the holder for good connection inside. |
