Default sluggish on startup

Hi. I have a 98 txt and it has recently been sluggish to start (or runs the battery dead trying) I replaced the plugs and coil (just guessing) and it seems to help but it still bogs down pretty bad and even spits back every once and a while. I tried adjusting the valves as the previous owner did them last 1/12 I don't think that helped much but I'm going to double check to be sure I did it right.

It smells "rich". I don't think there is much to adjust carb at least on the low rpm range, which direction should I be looking on this?

Once it starts does it run normal ? Def check to make sure the valves are right, check the fuel pulse hose for oil and clean the carb.

Thanks for the quick response. I guess the answer is "I think" It still runs good but I don't use it enough to remember what "good" felt like.

Fuel pulse hose is a new one to me. I'm going to have to see where that is and what it does. Is it pretty easy to remove the carb for cleaning?

Pulse hose is the one coming from the side of the block to the fuel pump. They sometimes get oil in them and it won't allow the pump to work correctly.

Carb removal isn't bad but pay attention and be careful not to tear any gaskets..
