Equus 6068 (black) & 8068 (white) Tachometer Install
I have a 2003 EZGO TXT 295cc Robin Subaru engine. I installed the black version Equus tachometer (606 in my cart today. Both the Equus# 6068 and 8068 models come with the inductive sensor and wire lead, and the separate green pickup lead used in automobiles.
I did not have to modify anything with the tach or the wiring (brown inductive wire had about 4”-6” of slack left and I mounted the tach to my steering column). On the included inductive pickup all I did was add a zip tie on each of the outer clamp tabs, then put some clear pure silicone around the zip ties to keep them put. - red wire goes to a switched 12V circuit I installed in the “golf tee holder” area - black goes to a ground I installed on the back wall behind the cupholders - white illumination wire is tied into that blue factory wire behind the key switch and is the power wire for the factory headlights - brown inductive wire was routed away from other wires down below the fuel hose and through the frame, up through the center u-channel, then through the dash, then out the same hole used for the turn signal wire loom, and to the tachometer. In the picture below, I circled in yellow the routing through the engine compartment Then follow the steps in order to set the tachometer setting. VERY IMPORTANT TIP: YES I KNOW THE ROBIN SUBARU ENGINES (BOTH 295cc AND 350cc) ARE 2 CYLINDER ENGINES, YOU DO NOT SELECT (2 CYLINDER 1000 rpm) OPTION, YOU MUST SELECT THE (4 CYLINDER 2000 rpm) OPTION IN ORDER FOR THE TACHOMETER TO READ CORRECTLY ON THE GAUGE! I verified the Equus tachometer was working properly with my very expensive and accurate Oppoma Pulse Engine Tachometer. Happy to say the Equus gauge was spot on and I have had ZERO issues with the tach “jumping” or “spiking” or “not reading” as others have experienced. 054545FB-ED27-46EF-8481-B51E546EB05C.jpg 8D52518D-0DB4-44A4-8B5F-14D66A830AEC.jpg 257FA0F6-B5F5-4B24-AFD5-ACC94C8F308E.jpg 047CE6E7-7699-4B2E-AE14-AD6E64075E37.jpg 1C3EB71E-9C58-43ED-9854-4133E4017D3A.jpg |

Re: Equus 6068 (black) & 8068 (white) Tachometer Install
That is because if fires both cylinders every revolution as many small engines do. The same setting is used on my 1 cylinder VC 460 and my 2 cylinder 440 F/C Suzuki for that very reason. You could have 4 cylinders and if the plug was fired once every revolution it would still be set the same. If not using the plug induction circuit the over settings would come into play.

Hope this helps someone out! I pieced it together from multiple threads and my own experience!

It is the same situation with the el cheapo mini tachs as again they are reading off a single plug and not the ignition coil.

Re: Equus 6068 (black) & 8068 (white) Tachometer Install
Raydhd,
You are correct!! Since, I was there I also did the CPP CLUTCH TUNING SPRING and key start jumper wire. I got it to work perfectly after playing with the idle screw/jam nut. I ended up setting the RPM’s to roughly 600-700 rpms. This was my correct rpms for my engine and with my engine modifications. I figured something else out, once you key start the engine, if you tap the gas pedal quickly (once warmed up of course), it takes the engine out of starting mode and the engine goes into charging mode and purs like a kitten. Once purring, I verified with my volt meter, and it was charging at 12.45 volts at 650 rpms. |

Rooster59,
Thank you! Yea I put a lot of time, money, and effort into it! I have a small Engine Repair business and took this “barely” used cart in on payment. Customer said it had maybe 10 hours on the cart total. Got a steal on this buggy. |

Re: Equus 6068 (black) & 8068 (white) Tachometer Install
Update:
Finally took the EZGO out today for a 8 mile long test ride to check out the tachometer, clutch tuning kit/key start, new timing belt, and valve adjustment! Everything worked perfectly, the tachometer was spot on with no hicups, and the key start and idle was awesome! I should have done this modification sooner. Starting and stopping from stop signs and crossing intersections, is a whole lot smoother and take off is faster. No more initial lag at take off. And per GPS, today’s top speed was 28 mph! NICE! Thanks, CPS |
