Re: 1984 flywheel removal
OK folks, here are the results of splitting engine block and removal of crankshaft bearings.
Bearing from flywheel end of crankshaft: https://www.dropbox.com/s/k8cdw63x8f...37250.jpg?dl=0 These parts were found between crankshaft seal and crankshaft bearing: https://www.dropbox.com/s/xkq7enp8ki...43650.jpg?dl=0 It appears that the bearing cage that keeps the ball bearings spaced apart disintegrated. The crankshaft seal on the clutch end of the crankshaft was also damaged but not visible until the seal was removed: https://www.dropbox.com/s/7vs9y7gosg...19422.jpg?dl=0 The 2 bearings from the crankshaft on the clutch side were very dirty but still working. The crankshaft does not appear to be damaged. The roller bearing for the connecting rod appears to be OK. What should I look for with respect to that bearing that would necessitate replacement? Today I start working on cleaning all the engine warts that will go into rebuild. Also making list of parts that I need to order to get this thing working again. |

Re: 1984 flywheel removal
Side to side movement on the rod is ok. Up, and down is bad.
I believe that the upper rod bearing can be replaced. To replace the crankshaft/rod bearing, the crankshaft needs to be separated, and rebalanced. I believe most people opt to just replace the entire crankshaft. One more thing. To post pictures, you can click on the go advanced button, and then click on the paperclip. "One more thing. To post pictures, you can click on the go advanced button, and then click on the paperclip. You can then post 5 pictures directly to this website." Being new to the forum I did not know that. Thank you for the information. Also, thank you for information about checking connector rod roller bearing.

Re: 1984 flywheel removal
The manual I have access to is older.
The pages inside are dated as follows: Issued 2/76 Thanks for your version because it gave me instructions on adjusting the timing of the solid state ignition. |

Re: 1984 flywheel removal
Crankshaft, bearings, and seals on order. While cleaning blower half of crankcase I encountered a material on the seal side that was around the crankcase housing where the magneto is inserted. It looks like it was applied via a tube as 2 applications. Does anyone have an idea of what it is and do I need to order something to replace it?
