Default 1990 Marathon Govenor Adjustment

I recently purchased my first golf cart, a 1990 Marathon with the 2 stroke 3 pg gas engine. I love this site and I have already spent incredibly too much time checking out all the cool rides and gathering ideas! So far I have followed others advice and removed the oil injector and mix my gas. I have also installed the HEI conversion with great results. I am considering adjusting or removing the govenor and wanted to get your guy's opinions. I have tried to find a thread on this particular engine but so far haven't been successful. I found the one for the 85 model, but on my cart the drive belt runs from front to back, not side to side. Probably basically the same govenor adjustments but wanted to see what everyone had to say before I started tinkering. Advice on whether I should remove, adjust, or just leave it alone will be appreciated!

If you do decide to pull it, there was someone about a week ago looking for govenor parts to put back on his cart.

Hello Bad Apple, welcome to the forum. The answer to your question really depends on how you are going to use your cart. For me the only drivers are myself and my good lady and we are both sensible people who understand that there is more than one throttle setting. So I removed the whole device as being surplus to requirements. I did, however, buy a cheapy rev counter for about $12 to keep an eye on engine speed.
That said if my cart was to be used by kids, friends and assorted drunks you can bet your life I would be protecting my investment with a governor and that little sucka would be set to 10 mph.

Thanks for the responses guys. I think I'm going to leave the govenor assembly hooked up and just try some minor adjustments for now. I don't plan on anyone else driving the cart but I'm sure at some point it will happen. I'm not where I can look at the cart right now, but it sounds like there will be a nut that can be adjusted either near the carb. or the clutch??? I appreciate the help.

Welcome!
You can adjust your governor but I would keep a close on my RPMS

.45ACP because shooting twice is silly.

do yourself a favor and buy a cheap tach off of Ebay either way (should run under about $15 shipped) - it's always a good idea to watch your RPM's as these little 2-strokes love to overrev (5k is the factory recommended limit, I have my governor set around 4400 and even on hills, etc it never goes over 4800, but you'd never know as the cart will still do 20+ with 2 people).
