Default Carb settings too rich or too lean?

Running an 81 G1
New top end
The cart will idle nice(unplugged black/white from cdi). Revs good up to 3/4 throttle. After that it seems to hesitate a little and spits and pops. Is this too rich or too lean? If anyone can help that would be great. Thanks

Spitting and popping indicates lean condition. Are you running a stock air filter?

Yes. Brand new air filter. Took off the bag on it though. After doing some reading, i am going to try adjusting the carb again today.

Take the screw all the way in gently not tight....Then out 1 OR to 1 and half turns out is the norm for these....Jack it up and squirt some carby cleaner down its throat 6 or more time as it revs out....let it catch up and do it again several times...this have worked with mine when she has a hissy fit.

Yeah I agree, I think I'd be taking off the carb and giving it a good bath. I use hot water with Simple Green in a bucket. Take it apart and use a toothbrush everywhere you can. Then use tiny pipe cleaners to clean out the small jets, I've even used sewing needles. The small jets can get build up in there. Carb cleaner will work too if you don't feel comfy taking the carb apart. You just have to spray it many times to get it to go into all the passages.

Usually the pilot air jet gets plugged or partially plugged and causes poor idling. If it's popping at higher rpm it might be running out of fuel in the bowl, you can adjust that per the manual.

Thanks. I will check it out. I have had the carb off and apart. New jets, cleaned it up. Just not much of a 2 stroke guy lol. If I dont get it figured out today I am going to have a local mechanic take a look at it i think.

Also, are using the factory oil injection system?

If you premix, what ratio?

50:1 is way too much oil. The factory oil injection system mixes at 150:1. I tested various mixes, ended up with 100:1 and it worked fantastic.

Remember, the more oil in the mix, the less fuel there is, so it will run leaner.

Just rebuilt the top end. Guy i got the parts from said run 50:1 till its broke in, then thin it out. If you figure that may be my issue i will run a couple more tanks thru then thin out the oil
