Well update 2. I went out and performed further examination. It appears when we was riding at at a extended length of time I do remember a backfire and after I did get it to turn over it it kept turning over and over and smelled like raw fuel it appears it was coming out of the muffler. Maybe the backfire created a weak spot or a hole. so there is where the raw fuel is coming from. I will remove the muffler for further inspection and see what it is.

Hey Stewmagoo,
I had the same problem some years ago. What happened in my case is that the fuel pump had let go and the diaphragm split. It worked fine when running but when you stopped it formed a siphon which sucked fuel out of the tank, through the torn diaphragm, down the pressure line that drives the pump and into the crankcase. Then it started to fill the cylinder and leaked past the rings and down the exhaust port.
In my case I didn't realize that the engine was fluid locked and kept trying to start it. In the end I blew out the rear crankcase oil seal which caused me to weep bitter tears of rage and frustration.
Now I am not saying that this is the problem in your case but if it leaks a fair amount overnight then I would start by looking at the fuel pump first. It is easy to take apart just use a sharpie to draw a line down the outside so that the lid goes back in the right orientation. Sometimes the cracks are so tiny it is easier to feel them than see them. I found that the repair kit was almost the same as a new pump so I fitted a new one and have been fine ever since.

Good luck

Dave

It is also possible that the backfire blew out one of the crankseals, a common result of a backfire. A blown seal will not allow the fuel pump to pump fuel nor will it pull the fuel air mixture into the cylinder.

Where exactly is the crankseal located and I will diagnose? I did find a hole in the muffler when I took it off.

One is behind the clutch and the other is behind the cooling fan. If you get it cranked, you can spray a little wd40 or starting fluid behind each location and if the rpms pick up, the seal is leaking.

Well I got the spot on the muffler fixed. Reinstalled and rode it in the neighborhood a couple of hours. Seems to be straightened out for now. I'm going to watch tonight and see if it's leaking anything tonight.

After some diagnosis it does appear my fuel pump is an issue. I ordered a new one which should be here this week. Any links or ideas on how to replace this pump on back of engine? Keep in mind that I mix directly in the fuel tank and the oil reservoir is bypassed.

If you've got the round one it's mounted directly on the block. The back of the pump is where it mates to the engine so it can pulse off if crankcase pressure. Seems like I remember it having an o ring to seal it to the port. When I get a minute I'll look it up in the service guide. Or if you need it, post it here.

The 3pg had 2 different fuel pumps. One was direct mount, and the other was remote mount.
