Compression just tested at 140 so I'm happy about that. I closed all of the adjustment screws on the new carb, screwed down the choke cable, cleaned up the fouled plug and it started up. No flooding this time and she ran and stayed running. It ran really rough and some times in spurts. I'm sure there are still some adjustments to be made but it didn't cut off like it did with the old carb. It did smoke a hell of a lot more than it ever did with the old carb. Lots of white smoke and the exhaust sounded different. Now what? Tune this one in? Rebuild the old one again?

Get a new plug they can be fouled but still run but run poorly also when it's running spray some break clean/carb cleaner around the carb boot make sure it's sealed up and has no cracks

Yeah I'll get a new one for sure. I didn't have a spare so I just put this one back in for testing. Which adjustment screws do I need to be concerned with.

I start with the pilot screw at 1.5 out. And set the throttle screw so no light can be seen through the carb . hmm, guess I don't have those pics anymore.

I took the old one apart. It's pretty dirty. Also, the seat was just about clogged. I'm going to soak it in carb cleaner over night then hit it with compressed air.

Yeah it definitely has some slop to it. I was thinking of yanking some parts from the new carb to make a frankencarb. We will see how this goes.

Ok so new spark plug in. Pilot screw adjusted to 1.5 turns out. Still runs like crap. Tested fuel pump again and it's good. It will run while jacked up but will barely move when I'm in it. I opened the pilot screw more and no effect other than a wet plug. This is with the $18 carb. Again compression is at 140. I'm going to pull the throttle shaft from the new carb and clean up the old carb and see what happens. Until then, any other ideas or suggestions?

If the carb is the same, same size, you might see if you can put the old main jet in the new carb. It has to be way off or the carb is junk....and that is a pretty simple carb.
