Yamaha g1 motor runs when battery is connected
Hi guys I have a late 70's to early 80's Yamaha g1 gas golf cart.when I hook the battery up the starter turns.doesnt matter if the key is on or not.with the starter unhooked the solenoid lose power at the big terminals when you press the gas pedal.i am totally stumped any help would be greatly appreciated

Try unhooking the voltage regulator and see what it does seen them go bad and back feed the system

Maybe a bad "stop switch" at the pedal or a stuck solenoid also.

I put a new stop switch on it.tried unhooking the voltage regulator as mentioned above & still does it

Does the starter come on in F and R or just one direction all of the time? Does the position of the key switch matter at least? Not sure how it can be anything other than a solenoid being stuck closed at this point. It's just a matter of figuring our which one.
You may want to take disconnect one of solenoids and see what happens. If nothing then work the key switch and and see if it will work normally in at least one direction. If so they you know the solenoid you disconnected is bad. If not then repeat the process with the other solenoid. |

When you hook up the battery the starter starts moving in forward direction only it doesn't matter if the key is on or not
