Default 81 g1 rear end

Ok , i have a question? I have a leaky rear,so i have another one to use, does someone know if i can leave the axel tubes on the cart and just take out the axels and take the rear out of the cart? Pull and slide out, just dont know if theres enough room to get it out? Between the tubes, thanks
