I'm still getting some backfire, probably the spring is too weak.

My local guy also said something about those butterflies sometimes don't close all the way, or something like that.

I put a smaller spring with more tension on mine and it helped, but doesn't seem to open up as much. I have less throttle.

Wink Re: Backfire???

Less throttle, do you mean you are going slower or the governor is slowing you down? You override the throttle spring in the 1st inch of pedal travel. My guess is you need to move the cable stop on the governor out about 1/2 inch and see if this is better.

To check to see if you are getting full throttle opening lift the seat, leave key off and push the pedal all the way to the floor while watching the throttle lever to see if it goes 90 degrees from where it starts, it should easily do this.

My s.w.a.g. is the governor is hitting to soon.

Oh Yeah, where ya at in Missouri?
I discovered that Home Depot does not have those drawers of specialty items when I went there for an O Ring yesterday (I had to buy a pack of 10 in order to get 1 ), & do they not have a selection of springs. Our local Ace Hardware does, including spings, and I picked up a likely candidate this morning.

When it stops raining, I'll give it a try.

The new spring seems to have done the trick.

O K Question where is the throttle lever supposed to be before you press the accelerator? Is it paralell to the rear axle or on a angle to the rear end? I guess I mean where is the starting point when the cart is stopped?

This picture is in the starting position (pedal not pushed)

Take off the air intake hose and look in the carburetor, with nothing touching the pedal the butterfly should be full closed (the choke is first the the throttle butterfly).

Does this help?
