1989 3PG Muffler Fabrication
Hi all,
Does anyone know of a muffler that can be modded/fabricated as a replacement for the 1989 3PG muffler? Going to BBQ the old one, but I am afraid it might be the end of the line for it. It's unreal what the Muffler Mafia wants for a replacement!!! Thanks Blair |

A chambered auto/truck muffler seems a decent choice, if able/willing to fabricate.

Re: 1989 3PG Muffler Fabrication
New here been reading a lot to upgrade my 85 pg2 that i just bought.
My muffler needs a bbq. Not really happy with the 9hp rating. Upgraded my carb to an 88 and read the 88 pipe will give 11 hp range. Pretty low spec and really expensive pipe. I have been wondering about modding and using a used 125 bike expansion chamber and silencer. Look to be similar in exhaust port size and final output restriction. Most 125 bikes make 30 and up hp at the 5-7000 rpm range. 35-40 7-9000 prm. Dogs in the 2-5 range. Cheap used 125 pipe might need a 1/4 1/2 primary cone shortening to move the power band down to the 3-5000 rpm range and keep scavenging in ratio at those rpms. Anyone ever try one of these mods? Not seen much other then not really worth it and a few attempts at using a 250 pipe. This will be to large due to the rpm and flow differences. Think a 125 pipe might be just about right. 80 pipe might work for low end band but those are a little more rare to find junked out for cheap. Those can make in the 20hp range but rev to the moon. |

250 Polaris utility ATV pipe is not bad. Power on the stock utility ones is about right.

Have you done this mod?
I would think the rpm range is off. Did Polaris make a 125? You have a chart for them? Half the rpm half the flow since the carts need power in the 2-5 range. Our engines will never reach those high power ratings or rpm of a 250. |

22hp@5300 should be just what it needs.
125cc 2-stroke ATV's are uncommon. Yamaha had a tripod in the early 80's |
