no fuel ? new rebuild
I have asked a few questions on this forum and had excellent and quick responses very greatly appreciated. I haven't been on here in a while I finally saved up the cash and bought a complete engine rebuild kit for my 244cc 1988 cart after rebuilding the motor I took it for a easy drive around the yard it back fired and then died I have determined there is spark ( I had installed the HEI set up before the rebuild) I don't however seem to be getting gas pass the carb. unhooking the fuel line on the carb side of the pump and turning over I get a trickle of gas not sure what kind of pressure I need there if I let that fuel trickle into where the oiler blocking screw is I can get it to almost idle not sure what I need but after the new muffler, drive pulley, and rebuild kit I just want it to run any ideas would be great

Re: no fuel ? new rebuild
2 really common things to check.
1) Make SURE you installed the piston with the port facing the intake, a backwards piston will cause exactly what you are describing. 2) Check the crank seals for blowout, while cranking it spray some WD40 or carburetor cleaner on the rear seal (easily accessible) and into the fan area. If it picks up or tries to run, you've got a bad seal. |

NO NO NO!!!
Just unbolt the exhaust header pipe from the head and muffler, and crawl under and rotate the engine by hand while looking into the exhaust port. You should only see the blank side of a piston skirt, if you see a square port then it's in backwards. |

Re: no fuel ? new rebuild
Backfired, and died really sounds like a seal popped out. I had the same issue.
Pull the fuel pump off, and put your finger over the hole in the block to see if there is a good amount of pressure while cranking it over. You can also open up the fuel pump to check the diaphragms. |

If it was running good before the "pop", I agree with the blown-out seal.

Still wouldn't hurt to check piston orientation while you're at it, but a seal sure does sound likely here. |

Re: no fuel ? new rebuild
I looked at my pics during rebuild the port on the piston is facing the carb. I will pull the fan and check that seal better. There is plenty of air to operate the fuel pump
