Talking Throttle plate

throttle plate should be open when I press the accelerator, correct. Since I can't see the plate with the carb still on the engine, I'm thinking that if I disconnect the linkage and close she plate than reconnect the linkage, because it still backfires at de-acclereratiom. Will that work. Thanks

Working on 1997 ezgo gas golf cart, trying to stop the backfiring that happens when I slow down. It doesn't do it all the time. Thanks

Look in the tech section at the top of the thread list. In it you will find a thread that covers resetting your cables etc. To answer your question, the throttle plate should be completely closed right before the pedal micro switch clicks open. With the key off, press the pedal and listen for the click. The throttle plate should move only after that click.
