Other things to consider like "does the width of the gap control dwell".

My timing is probably all over the place. I have only bounced the Rev limiter twice, ever. I drove in a puddle and must have got the pickup wet and only had barely 1hp.

I'm just going to covert to Arduino tci or cdi ignition.

Got ahold of a optical tachometer, engine revs to 4k RPM. I installed a regular tach as well

I looked for a magnet in the flywheel and could not find one, it only has a ring that sticks out and there is a window in one spot. The pickup aims right at it.

Yeah, I know that stuff. Here's the "G2/9" flywheel and the "G11" flywheel (which I believe is Same as "G14"). What I was wondering is "is dwell controlled by the gap, or hump in case of newer, or is it controlled by the ignitor?". I'm guessing it's the ignitor, but one would need to be sure. Beware, the older style G2/9 pickup is not compatible with newer flywheel! It will hit the "hump". (wonder how I know?) I didn't destroy it, I was being careful.

A tci will retard timing as the RPM increases due to system limitations, that's why cdi's are better, so the ignitor has to speed up the dwell to advance timing.

The question you might be asking is the ignitor using the rising edge or falling edge to trigger the ignition event.

The G2/9 uses the ignitor, the flywheel with the cutout window in it. The other one looks like a magnet and iirc the G14 uses a mag coil just like the clone or B&S that runs off a flywheel magnet and has no other parts just the coil on there. Thanks for the pic Ggtech!
