Default transmission input shaft

Hey,

This is my first time disassembling a yamaha trans axle in detail, but today I had to check for bad bearings in a G22 because of noise issues. Long story short I found the bad bearing but while checking I also removed the bolts on the transmission input shaft cover and removed the cover. When I broke the seal the entire thing came out as a unit. Now my issue is trying to "slide" it back in place and get everything to line up, which is not proving to be easy

To get everything tucked nicely back in there, will I have to do it piece by piece, or can it really be reinstalled as one assembled unit? There are also two movable pieces inside. One is very narrow and fork like and seems like it needs to slip right around this pin looking thing. The other is larger and has a half circle cutout to "swing" over the shaft, like it is meant to secure it or something.

Basically, if someone could give me some kind of step by step for reassembling the transmission parts, that would be excellent because I feel like I just made it more difficult for myself removing the whole assembly

thanks for the help!

It helps a lot if you have a shop manual.

Piece by piece is the only way to do it. Make sure you find the shims from the far end of the shaft. They probably fell off...

You should do yourself a favor and replace all the bearings in there. If one went good chance another may go. Save yourself some headache.

I do have the repair Manual but I figured I would ask anyway until I get back to the shop on Tuesday. Your right, a shim did fall off but it was fairly thick like a washer. Other than that I did not see any other shims in there. Should there be more than 1?
Other than that I took the liberty of spraying down everything inside with brake cleaner for the heck of it
Thanks
