To check if needle is working and float is set right pull the carb off and take off the bowl of the carb blow air through the fuel in let with your mouth not compressed air and raise the float slowly air flow should stop when float is level it it doesn't you can bend the tab slightly to adjust it if you can't get it to seal you likely need a knew needle if this checks out you may have a torn diaphragm in the fuel pump these are the only two ways gas can get into the cranks case

Did you remove the jets and the idle adjust screw when cleaning? I soak the carb body in parts cleaner and dry with compressed air.

I can't ever call myself the yamaha guru, but that is the spot I fill at my shop. I am Yamaha factory certified, and have a decade of Yamaha experience. To me, I am the Yamaha guy, to the world, I am just another Joe schmoe. Yamaha is my deal, I would never own any gasser other than a Yamaha (I have a bunch of em)....electrics, they all get upgraded the same way. I am fortunate to get to build cool s%&@+.

Frig it I just ordered a new carb, fuel filter, fuel pump, air filter and spark plug on amazon for $58. Pretty cheap to replace 14 year old parts and start fresh.
Will post when I get everything in and tuned up :)

With those aftermarket carbs, remember it's not just a bolt-on, You really should break them down and clean them thoroughly prior to installing, they are prone to being full of manufacturing residue, etc and can often be as problematic as a bad OEM carb until disassembled and cleaned. That in NO way means that they aren't adequate carbs, they just tend to sneak some dirty stuff through QC and can be frustrating until cleaning and adjustment.
