G1 Reverse
Hello First Post Here.
My son and I are restoring a Yamaha G1. He lives at the beach and will modify it to cary his surf boards. So far everything is going swimmingly. Presently we are connecting aftermarket lights and such. I noticed that the reverse buzzer is missing. Before I (he) pays for NOS ....... 1) Are there affordable buzzers that are compatible? 2) If I hook a flasher to it will it "flash" Sorry about the photo orientation, they are straight when I uploaded them. |

Re: G1 Reverse
Theft prevention.
I added a 12VDC 500A relay and a wireless key fob switch so all the power can easily be cut. It works great. Next I wanted to secure the back cover, so I installed a generic cabinet lock with a paddle. That was not so good. The cover moves side to side and opens easily. After some thought I decided on a small electromagnetic lock. I used a large one on my front gate and it's super solid. The small one ($19) just came in and Ill start the experimentation. When I get it working my plan is to epoxy it to the rear cover. https://www.dropbox.com/s/uw4z2e8ewq..._0395.MOV?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/4hqepiosmh...6%202.MOV?dl=0 |

Re: G1 Reverse
We’ll also repurpose the failed key lock as a 12VDC locking switch for the electromagnet

Re: G1 Reverse
We had to come up with a different locking mechenism because the standard cabinet lock wasn't reliable with the flexible fiberglass.
Here's the repurposed key lock switch. The design is from parts I had laying around. A Copper Grounding Post Fixture Thingy. A Spring that fits Into the post. A Flat Head Screw that fits into the Spring 14ga. Wire terminate with a paddle connector. Epoxy Putty Devcon 1 minute Epoxy Put the spring and the wire paddle into the hole of the grounding post. Place some putty in the set screw hole. Moderately tighten the set screw enough to spread the putty. Wait for the putty to get hard. When hard use the one minute epoxy to secure the flat head screw into the spring. When hard secure the fixture to the fiberglass using the 1 minute epoxy Take the long paddle from the key lock and make a cut half way through. Using a vise and vise grips or two sets of vise grips turn the end of the paddle 45 degrees. re-install the paddle. The paddle will make contact with the flathead screw when the key is turned. The Positive lead from the electromagnet will be terminated with a hoop connector (not shown) and attached to the center screw of the cabinet lock. The lead embedded in the copper grounding post will go to the positive battery. terminal. Black from the electromagnet goes to ground. (Do not get confuse "Grounding Post" with Ground. It's just a handy fixture) |
