Default G9 governor removal ?

I’m putting in new gears and I know I read somewhere about removing the gov parts in there. I figure this would be a good time to remove this stuff but how much of it do you take out? Is it just removing the arm on the outside that the throttle cable hooked to, the 4 little fingers on the inside and the clip that holds them in and maybe cutting the fork off or removing it from the shaft? Or should I just leave it all alone?

IMO, Yes remove it, as you say now is the time. Careful with the new case gasket, this spacing is important.

That is what I did....I left the shaft to keep the case sealed.

Hey Ron, you've got a lot of experience, so let me ask one of those "dumb" questions.

That looks so close to my G1 gearbox, governor weights, fork, and all. Do you think Yamaha used the same gearbox on G1 - G9. If so that will make it easy to find replacement gear boxes.

It looks like the larger drive gear will spin the axles faster (more speed yea).

Or has anyone taken a look at the "swapability" (if that's a word) of the early gearboxes?
