Default 2001 CC Gas Keeps Running after a Stop

Just purchased a 2001 Club Car 290 Gas, not lifted.

Newbie in need of some help, I did a search and came up empty.

Engine is pretty clean, new plug, air, fuel, oil/filter. Cart runs great up and down hills. I do notice that once it warms up a bit and I come to a complete stop the engine wants to keep running a bit and it actually moves the Cart backwards about a foot before it stops if I let off the break.

It does not do this all the time. I also notice that when it does and I start up again I can hear the engine but it takes a bit longer to get going again. When it stops normally it does not do this and starts up and goes right away.

Do I have a ghost in the engine compartment?

I called one service dept and was told to spray WD40 inside around the drive hub and bearing idler. I have a pdf parts manual but do not have the service manual and I'm a bit lost. Can someone please help, I don't mind taking things apart.

Does any know if there is a dowloadable service manual?

Thank you,
Jim B.

If you switch to neutral before you turn key off does it still do it ?
Free Manuals for CLUB Car don't exist you can purchase from many of the Site Sponsors listed above.

I don't switch to neutral, once I stop by applying the brake, it does it only for a brief moment as I described. This scenario does not happen all the time only about 20% of my stops.

Thank you for helping.

Make sure none of the 3 frame grounds in the kill circuit are oxidized.

Grounds were good, thank you for your tips.

I took the liberty to call another local Golf Cart repair and I was fortunate enough to speak with an excellent and honest mechanic.

He mentioned that the Cart was probably sitting before purchased for a while and the the drive clutch unit was sticking and not releasing at the time of a stop causing the Cart to want to continue for a bit.

He suggested I remove the belt (found a crack and replaced) and spray some PB Blaster in between the outer pulley clutch drive that was located toward the front. Reason to remove belt was so that I could work the separation by hand in and out. It did stick a bit but after it loosen up. He advised just to drive it and spray it a few more times and I should be good.

Problem seems to have gone away for the mean time the few times that kids and I have driven. I guess time will tell.

If it does it again have plug wrench with you and pull the plug to see what color it is.
It may be after running from being lean.

there is also a grease fitting on both clutchs that needs to be grease, if they are dry they will stick, if they are moving free, my best guess would be the switch under the pedal, could be bad or there is a bad ground, good luck

I have a 2001 gas DS, do you have a location or a picture in where the location of these grease fittings on the clutch wheel might be, I don't see any.

I also lubricated the switch under the pedal first before went the clutch route and that did not do it at first.

Thanks,
JB

THis can be caused by a faulty microswitch failing just 20% of the time on the kill circuit or the solenoid.
