Engine ID
I have a 1995 Medalist with a 295cc Robin engine. I was told by the previous owner that the engine was not the original. I'm planning to overhaul this engine over the winter. Apparently there are different styles of valves depending on the date of manufacture. Any how how do I tell what I have without tearing it apart?
Thanks, Wayne Last edited by leftex; 11-25-2013 at 11:17 PM.. Reason: added pic |

Re: Engine ID
If you have the cast iron exhaust manifold bolted to the head, it is the pre MCI version. If the manifold is part of the aluminum head casting then it is the newer MCI version.

The "old style" valve uses EZGO 26619-G01 to secure the valves & the "new style" valves use EZGO 72510G01.You can google each part # for pictures then just simply remove your valve cover (6 bolts) to see which "style" your engine has.Hope this helps |

Re: Engine ID
You can always recycle your old keepers. these engines just don't normaly turn enough rpms to stress the valve train to the point of dropping valves. there are exceptions however.

Re: Engine ID
The old retainer will be fine. All the pre MCI parts will interchange, new style to old style. Many parts will interchange pre MCI and MCI. Get a service manual P/N 27615-G01, starting model year 1992, revised 08/04. It has the parts breakdown in it, it designates MCI and pre MCI, many parts are common between the 2.
