Help 88 gas ezgo carburetor is flooding after lift
I have an old 88 ezgo that ran ok until I put a lift kit on it, then I guess because of the angle of the motor after lift the float is not level and now it floods out. I can keep it running by pinching off the gas line with your hand after the bowl gets full so I'm pretty sure this is what's happening. That's where I was 3 years ago and gave up on the cart....
The other day I got to thinking maybe it just needed a new carb so I ordered a new one, put it on and still the same problem. So my question is, what can I do about it? Maybe get a new intake tube and have it machined so that it make the carb sit level?? With all the lifted carts out there, it would seem like I wouldn't be the only one to have had this problem... |

Have you tried to adjust the float?

Or possibly drop the front of the engine cradle down a few inches with a custom bracket? I know the CC guys do that all the time.

Does it run okay down an incline? Or with the back end jacked up? I have bought a new carb for my lawn mower that was way out of adjustment until I adjusted it myself. My 84 has a 5" lift and the only issue in the rear was the choke cable got pulled too tight around a bracket... I recruited the cable.

Re: Help 88 gas ezgo carburetor is flooding after lift
Can anyone tell me if the motor was sitting vertical before the lift kit or are they already tilted a little to match the rear end and clutches?
I just unbolted the front of the carriage and let it fall about 3 inches and the motor is still tilted rearward.... Still flooding the carb... Funny thing is I tried to adjust the float in the old carb to restrict the gas and never could get it to run right, it would either get no gas or too much. I know the float is suppose to sit level but if my carb isn't level it will keep taking gas |

Re: Help 88 gas ezgo carburetor is flooding after lift
I after reading a lot on here about other 80's ezgo's flooding I think maybe tomorrow I'll pull the fuel pump and see if the diaphragm is leaking into the crank case,
I was reading that there is a post on the forum somewhere that tells you how to check the fuel pump for leaking into the crank case but I can't find it. If anybody knows where it is can you send me a link? |

Yes... the engine is on a tilt before being lifted. Also these carts were made to travel on hilly terrain as well as level ground.

Re: Help 88 gas ezgo carburetor is flooding after lift
Ok guys, I took my fuel pump off and bottom diaphragm was tore almost all the way around. I made a temporary fix with some 2" tape until I get a new fuel pump. So that was the problem the whole time.. This should be a sticky I see a lot of guys have had the same thing happen and spent days adjusting their carb floats....
Anyways, now I think I have bigger problems... I got it running and got out on the road and it was running rough, backfiring and acting like it was getting too hot so I changed plugs and put in a new bp5hs and it was still running rough then it back fired loud and now it sounds hollow while turning over like it has blowed a hole out the side or bottom of the motor and won't crank at all. How do I check if I blow the crank seals out? I just did a compression check and it has 120 psi on top side. How much will a top and bottom end rebuild cost? Ive replaced almost everthing else, might as well... |
