![]() Hi all, 1st post, 1st club car, new to the dance, please be gentle
![]() My Club Car starts pretty well, but won't start *moving* (either F or R) until it's running for a few minutes (I have to keep pressing on the pedal). After then, even if I stop the engine and restart, it starts moving right away. While it's not moving, the engine *sounds* like it's idling, without changing the RPM regardless of how far I push on the pedal. Tried/checked so far: 1. Replaces fuel lines/filter/pump. 2. Replaced/adjusted the carb. 3. Checked that the throttle cable moves the throttle bracket |

How old is your fuel ? Have you drained, flushed and refilled with fresh fuel ?? It sounds to me that you have a hard to start cold engine issue. What engine do you have in your cart ? Richard |

![]() Welcome moriarty. I do see in the title of your post that you do have the Kawaski KF82 engine, often just referred to as the "flathead". As Ricks_club suggested it sounds like you are not in fact running during that first few minutes. Have you checked the operation of the choke? Some new owners aren't clear on how that works. It's not a push it and forget it like some lawnmowers and other such equipment. You need to hold the choke on as you're pushing the pedal. Usually need to continue holding it for at least a few seconds as it warms up. it will crank over on the starter when you push the pedal, but it's not actually running till it does "rev up".

![]() I hope the engine actually starts and I'm not crazy! Here's a 15-seconds video with sound: https://streamable.com/2ba49k .
My interpretation (assuming the engine actually starts and not running on the starter): the engine starts up just fine, but the car doesn't move until 1-2m later (just 10s in this video, because the car was still 'warm' - it was running ~1hr ago). I am typically doing 10s intervals: start it, let it run for 10s, release the gas. Start it again, let it run for 10s, release the gas. After 5-10 iterations, it starts moving (again, only 1 iteration on video b/c the car was warm). Once it starts moving, I can shut it down and restart without issues Quote:

![]() Yes, it needs a choke. It works by restricting the air flow to the carburetor, which makes the mix a bit more fuel rich. I'm not sure what the weather is like where you are, but in a colder environment you would be doing well to get it to start at all without the choke.

![]() You’re right and I’m an idiot for thinking that the engine actually started. It now all makes sense.
If I can’t find parts for my model, what would be my options? The simplest one is to take a hose, connect the air filter intake to the hole in the exterior, and just close it with hand when I start the engine. Maybe choke button from a newer model would work, but they all seem to need an air box with choke flap? |

I'm missing everything from 37 to 45. The only thing left is 38. Not sure how this choke even works - do you rotate the cover and it pushes the base to restrict the airflow? |
