2002 36v EzGo TXT weak power
I have a 2002 EzGo TXT that I purchased last year. Was trying to convert to lsv but gave up due to hassle/costs from dealers. Mechanically what I've done is the speed chip, and 20" tires on 10" rims. I don't know the exact time it quit making power or power weakened. It previously performed like a normal cart. Was getting 12-14 mph before chip increased to 18-18.5 mph with chip. Sometime after installing tires noticed very reduced power. Tires pumped to max. Cart will not hardly go across lawn at beach house (flat lawn), not enough power to load on landscape trailer. Once on road it seems to gradually pickup speed until it seems sufficient (haven't gps'd yet). It has the stock wires, controller, etc. Lights, horn etc seem fine. Any suggestions before I chase rabbits?

my guess would be the fact you have the larger tires on a stock electric system. When you upgrade the size of the tires you need to upgrade the controller/solenoid/wires. Can you go back down to your stock size tires and see if she acts normal?

Re: 2002 36v EzGo TXT weak power
I do think you lost torque with the larger tires but I bet batteries are weak as well.
I agree if you have the stock wheels and tires put them on. I bet you see similar issues. Cause 20" tires should still be able to go across your flat lawn with stock controller. The factory size is 18" so you haven't lost that much torque for flat ground. Check batteries at rest and under a load when u first hit the petal full. I bet the voltage drop is too much. |

Re: 2002 36v EzGo TXT weak power
I do still have the 18" tires/rims. I'll try that. and I'll check the load draw if I can figure out how to do it. I assume you place a voltage meter on the neg and positive leads of end battery next to controller(forgive my lack of knowledge). I do plan on upgrading battery wires from 6ga(?) to maybe 2ga if you think this will help. Got where I hate to ask cart dealers all they want is for you to upgrade to a new unit and kinda act condescending since you aren't running a $9,000 unit. Thanks folks.

Thanks all. One more question, am I wasting money to upgrade battery cables? 4ga or 2ga?

Re: 2002 36v EzGo TXT weak power
That's not the problem here unless they are obviously crorode and heating up and almost falling apart in 2 pieces.
Heavier wires in a case like this is almost never a waste of money. But unless you have lots of aftermarket power add-ons (like over 500 amp controller) the experts say 4 gauge is fine. |

Re: 2002 36v EzGo TXT weak power
personally-i would always choose 2g because if you choose to upgrade your system-you already got what you need...
overkill will never hurt in this case |
