Default 82 ds park brake latches right away

Help. Have a 82 electric Club Car DS. When you barely start pressing the brake pedal, it immediately starts latching the park brake and won't release until the accelerator is pressed. I know it's supposed to release wth the accelerator but it shouldn't latch until pressed all the way down and locking the park brake, not right away when lightly braking. Any ideas?

You probably need to lubricate all the linkage underneath with PB Blaster, or WD-40. They can rust up and not work correctly sometimes.

On an 82 I don't know exactly how the brake pedal mechanism is set up, but usually if the park brake ratchet is dragging its because of worn pivots on the brake pedal and go pedal assemblies.
It's probably a good time to remove the pedals, replace the pivot bushings, and replace the park brake ratchet and cam mechanism.

There's a rubber bumper beneath the cart that is used to set the accelerator pedal height. It needs to be adjusted slightly enough to bring the accelerator down enough to clear the brake pawl when the brake is depressed.
