Default Can I test a 24/36 V motor with 12 Volts?

I am installing a 24/36 volt motor, the solenoids are all 36V can I bypass the solenoids and reversing switch to check the motor at 12 Volts?
Does any one know the minimum kick in voltage for switching 36V solenoids?
I know that once they are closed, they do not care what the pass through voltage is.
Newbie thanking you in advance.

yes, the motor will spin at 12V. not sure on the activation voltage of your solenoids, but testing a series motor for operation at 12V is common practice.

Thank you Sonic, Wired her up and connected to a small wheel chair bat & the motor spun right up. I was trying to connect the field in parallel, duh why do they call it series wound? (senior moment).
Any way am looking forward to getting the batteries & then will try going riding.
Thanks again.
