Default a 12 volt question allowed?

battery charger questions-

How can you check battery chargers with a multimeter?

I have two chargers that caused me grief today- a 10/2 schumacher that when on 10 amps the needle just bounced, when on 2 amps it was fine

the 40/10/2 just didn't even buzz

can these be checked with a multimeter? what setting do you use?

I also have a 24 volt that is torturing me for my mobility scooter
thankks ahead of time- Now I am convinced I will keep or at least know where to look for the manuals in the future

Default Re: a 12 volt question allowed?

The answer to your question is yes, they can be tested with a multi-meter. But, please do it with two people and even then, be very careful. Have someone hold the alligator clips for you while you touch the meter probes to them.
I say this because these are "plug-in" devices. It may only be 12 volts and 40 amps coming out at the clips, if it's working right, but it's 120 volts and as much as 20 amps going into it.
