Re: Cart Still Running Hot, Still need help, please
As an update, I have driven it enough times to know that I am going to have to go with a torque motor. I've used the infrared gun on it and seen temps in the 190's. As soon as I get that one installed, I will give another update.

My solution is to swap the rear gears out, but I have been swamped and don't have the time right now. I'm limiting my driving to 140F and below until I have time to swap the gears. I too will update when I eventually get around to it. |

Re: Cart Still Running Hot, Still need help, please
For anyone who is interested, I picked up a torque motor from Plum Quick. It's not one of the ones advertised on the website. Per PQ, it would have 13 horsepower and have as much or more torque than other comparable motors. Had it installed, and have run it regularly, through mud, over hills, carrying up to three passengers, a load on the fold down seat, etc. One trip with two passengers and gear was 8 round trip miles.
All temperature problems have been solved. I've put an IR gun on it and I haven't seen it get higher than 85 degrees. It also seems to be helping the batteries last longer. Charge levels are higher than before on return to base. Top speed is about as advertised, which is great with me. It is a real heavy motor, so it adds some weight to the back end, but what do you expect? Torque seems to be great for the hills and the weight. Has no problem going up steep hills with folks in it. All in all, I'm pleased. I hope this is it. I'm crossing my fingers. If something goes bad, you know where I'll come back to. Thanks for all your help. |
