Hot Rod wiring harness in a Club Car??
I'm getting everything together to begin wiring my 2000.5 DS. project.
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/membe...-ds-build.html I am considering using an 8 circuit Hot Rod harness. It comes with flasher circuits and lighting circuits complete with color coded wiring labeled every 7 or 8 inches. Over the years I've done a couple of cars with this type of harness and they work really well. Has anyone ever used one on a golf cart? Your input is always appreciated. http://www.ebay.com/itm/8-CIRCUIT-UN...VV2N9Y&vxp=mtr |

My concern would be the amount of exposure to salt water / ocean air - I don't know where you plan to use your cart in NC/SC, but my recommendation would be to use marine rated wire/fuse panels from a reliability and longevity perspective - do it once and do it right!

Re: Hot Rod wiring harness in a Club Car??
jroeiii thanks for your input. Even though its parked inside when not in use, I planned to mount it up front inside the glove box storage area to protect it as much as possible from the elements. Since I read your comment I think I'll use a silicone RTV product to encapsulate the terminals from the back side. BTW, are you on the coast?

Re: Hot Rod wiring harness in a Club Car??
We are 11 miles from the coast, and my cart makes regular trips to the beach for vacation. Prior to my restoration it spent 20 years on a barrier island on the SC coast. After seeing how well a Club Car held up in those conditions I would never buy anything else - it held up far beyond it was ever designed to withstand neglect, moisture, corrosion, and rust galore (excluding the aluminum frame).
Sadly my overhaul from this summer has just taken a 180* after 4ft of brackish storm surge during Hurricane Matthew, surprisingly I believe the tinned wiring, soldered and sealed with adhesive heat shrink wiring may all survive - the marine fuse panels (SeaChoice) look OK but I will likely just replace as inexpensive as they are. Ultimately I think the effort I invested the first time will help minimize the re-work - which was why I suggested do it right and do it once. As for the all the factory wiring / non marine components from the headlights down - suspect they are toast. Hope this helps - just my $0.02 |
