Blown Curtis controller?
Recently I replaced batteries on electric 4x12V Club Cart. I cleaned both trays before installation, put new batteries, put cart in reverse. It drove for few feet, loud bang and it stopped. Some electrical smoke came from under plastic cover around tow/run switch. After removal that cover I found ugly surprise - salty looking buildup on both sides of electrical board.
I looked for damaged parts but nothing was obvious. I suspected that that salty looking substance buildup became conductive after it got wet and shorted some some components. After cleaning all that deposit cart still wont run and there is resistor which is getting very hot when battery charger is plugged in. Hot to the point that almost melted hole in plastic cover. Can someone advise if there is easy testing procedure or I should replace Curtis controller and overheated resistor? Is it possible that OBC is faulty too? Im a new member and cant post links to pictures. |

Re: Blown Curtis controller?
If you have a bench top power supply and a voltmeter or preferably a Curtis handset you could power it up and see if it is supplying voltages it should. If you apply at least 25V to pins 5&9 and hook the B- terminal to the negative of your supply you should be able to power up the handset. If you do not have one measure voltage with a meter on pins 15 (15V) and 1 (5V). This would at least give you an indication its turning on and regulating voltages properly.
