Is my generater broke?
My yamaha G1 stopped starting after a month in the cold with out running. When I jump started it, and took the cables off, the motor stopped. Put cables on - start. again quit when booster cables off.
now . my ? is witch wires on the starter/generater do i test? it should poduce power when moter is runing... right? I will rewire if i am generating. whether is getting nicer and would love getting it running again. |

Re: Is my generater broke?
Coutesy of smallblock450sl, I keep a lot of his stuff...........
The charging circuit consist of the starter/generator, wire harness, voltage regulator and a good battery (that will acept a charge). Disconnect the red and green wires coming out of the starter. Using a volt meter, you should read 5 OHMS (if not, bad charge windings in feild of starter, doesn't happen very often). Now check for continuity (in the wire harness) from the red and green wires from the starter to the voltage regulator connection (if you don't already know, the regulator is on the plastic inner rear fender, just to the right of the battery). if all checks good so far, find a freind with a Yamaha from 1990 to brand new and ask to borrow there voltage regulator for a test (they are all the same). Volt meter on battery, put the cart in nuetral (half way between f/r) and start the cart and rev it up. Your volt meter should read 14.5 to 15.5 volts. Now why your cart isnt starting...still think its a wire harness problem. |

Sounds like a dead battery.
