Default Update (and need info..!)

Not been on here for a while, working out of town last 4 weeks. Got the carb problem fixed on my 81' G1,now I need to know if I need the flapper on the exhaust...all the control arms that run it have been removed. Do I need to try to find the parts and replace or can it be ran without it ? I ordered all the parts to rebuild the motor , seals were bad on both sides, was a little low on compression. So I figured I would go ahead and do a renew on it , body is just about ready for paint ,that will be next on the list. I have been wanting to post some pics ,time has not been on my side, hope I can some time the next couple weeks. I am still tossing around the idea of lifting it , not going to lift it to much..! I live in the hills here in Kentucky , hauling the grandkids around the estate , don't want it to be tippy. I am thinking of building a 2" lift just so I can put a little bigger tire on , but not sure !
Ok I have babbled long enough, any info on the flapper is welcome...PEACE OUT

The butterfly valve set up was for help at low end. Yes you can leave it off, but you must make shure the valve is all the way open (if you leave it in). Or you can take the valve disc out and better yet, take out the disc/circlips and shaft and weld the shaft hole closed. You will lose some bottom end, but with new rings and new seals, you showed be happy. Good luck Dave

Thanks David...I had read on here some place about it, but short of going back reading all the posts ,thought it would be faster to just post it...lol. Parts for motor should be here in a day or so,may have a few late nights when they come! Thanks again, will try to post more as I go along.
