Maybe somebody can supply you with a schematic, then you can screw around more .... There's only one way to learn :)

IIRC, battery voltage goes to the key switch, then comes from that to the pedal switch. Somewhere along the circuit, the forward/reverse microswitchs come into play .... Have u tried jiggling the shifter around at all? Try moving wires around? Check for blue/green corrosion inside all connectors and make sure you didn't knock anything off when you were working on it earlier. I think there is a small fuse panel with one or two fuses on the left wheel well, check the fuse(s) (think there's just one 10a fuse there) also, pull lightly on the wires under the floor. If a wires insulation was ever damaged, water will fester in the wire and corrode the copper, so look for crappy looking wires and stuff, good luck!
