The outside of the secondary has a smaller taper just like the crank on the engine, and a key. There are two ways to get it off...one is a puller and proper way. Second you can get a big rod/drift and a 3lb and hammer it between the ramps on the hub from under the rear bumper. 3/4" rod works well, loosen the nut one thread or so then it can't fly off when it lets loose. Note that is not the recommended way and if you are not careful you can damage it. Never use any tools on the part of the sheaves the belt runs on. Tapers like to get stuck on harder as time goes by without removal. Make sure the key is in there and its all clean on the tapers when you put it back on. Stretch your spring some if you don't replace it, if you want to mess with it. Check the pads on the ramps for wear/breakage. If the ramps are torn up some you can sand them smooth, I mean some lines in them, if they are worn enough to change the shape they may not shift that well.

Going to have to order a new sheave.

This is an older pic during restoration.

Am I looking up the right part? They seem to be very expensive. the ones I found are around $130. doesn't seem like there is much to them.

That is called the movable sheave on the secondary. Well, the thing is the G1 sheave is special because it goes forward and reverse....it has ramps in both directions. All the other 4 stroke carts only have ramps in one direction. I would shop around or look for used even, but I'm not up on prices for them ...agreed that sounds high. It is not like they sell them every day you know, that is what you are paying for. Also check a yamaha dealer see what factory ones are. TNT shows 107.

I saw the one on TNT. I also saw a Yamaha power kit which comes with the sheave and the power spring for $89. It says it fits all Yamaha's. I'll call them to make sure, but it seems the best bang for the buck.....if it fits.

Just make sure it has the dual ramps, iirc the shaft size is the same but you would have no reverse.

Pretty sure people have used G1 secondaries on G9s for example, but you can't do the other way around. There used to be a yamahauler spring for the G1 if they still have it, the G1 spring have no ends. Some just put a piece of pvc pipe in there to space it out some kind of like a stiffer spring would.
