Default '82 G1 not getting gas

I'm not having much luck getting the g1 started. The compression test could only be done cold since it doesn't run but it was 100. It briefly starts when starting fluid is sprayed through the carburetor, then stops. I can't see any gas coming out the main nozzle in the carburetor. I removed the carb and cleaned it. The fuel pump and fuel filter are new. It doesn't seem like there is a good flow from the fuel pump when engine is turning over. When the engine starts with the starting fluid (for a couple seconds), the fuel flow seems to be stronger. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like crank case seals time!!! Not a big deal....will start right up when you change them.

Will it start with choke??

No start with the choke. I'll order the seals and get to work. Any good step - by - step posts?

Here is a link to a discussion of crank seal replacement:

The second page has links to the procedures as posted by other members.

Thanks! I'll update when I get them replaced.

Are there any "tests" I can do to see if the crank bearings are bad? Or will I just have to wait to get the seal off to find out?

Again, thanks for the responses. Very helpful.

Update: I got the clutch side crank seal replaced and cleaned up. This is what I found when I pulled the seal on the flywheel side:

Aren't the bearings supposed to go all the way around? LOL

Uh-oh.
Here's a link to get you started:

http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-y...-bearings.html

Check out the link in the last post. He was able to do his bearings without special tools or a press. If your bearings stay on the crank when you pull it apart you may need a bearing puller like this one:

I have installed the bearings in the crankcase halves by heating/cooling, and they do just drop right in.

Thanks, GMB. I think I'll give it a shot and see what happens. What are the chances that I can just replace the bearings and reassemble? Is that possible or should other stuff be done while I'm in that far?

Since you have to tear it all the way down a complete exam and evaluation is in order. Check it out and do what it needs. Fix it once and fix it up right.
