Re: Is it Worth Changing From 36v To 48V
If you have a 1977 ezgo as your username implies there is a lot more to it .... you would need to convert from resistor coil speed control to solid state speed control.... lots of guys have done it but it is a little more involved than just slapping 8v batteries in her and finding a charger.
We need to know what cart you are asking about. |

The upgrade to 48v is definitely worth it. But, you need to get 8 6v batteries, not 6 8v.

liberty, it seems i am disagreeing with everyone today. yes 48 is a great upgrade, but if you are only going short distances, then 8volt batts are good. i wish i had since i live in a small neigborhood. it is hilly tho. go for it.

Re: Is it Worth Changing From 36v To 48V
Eight 6 volt batteries have more storage capacity than six 8 volt batteries....thus giving you a longer run time. Also, higher voltage is generally more efficient. It might not be a lot but its there none the less. IMO six 8's will have about the same run-time as the stock 36 volt setup....but remember, this is all relative to your foot, motor and/or controller.
Ive done the 48 volts in a resistor cart thing...never had a problem with ezgos. Most of the time your wide open anyways so the coils are out of the circuit....it's anything less than full throttle than can be a problem. (burning coils) |

Re: Is it Worth Changing From 36v To 48V
He!! yeah. It's worth it. I did it to a Marathon. Best thing I ever did. I ran mine on the coils for about 6 months until I figured how I was going to use the cart. Like Roady said, If your mostly running wide open your fine with the coils. I found out that I was running more on the slow side at the campgrounds and didn't want to burn up the coils so later I converted to a controller.
