Carb Issue?
Hello all! We just rebuilt a 1984 EZ GO Marathon. We are having an issue with the carb. I think. When the cart is turning over, the carb fills with gas to the point that it overflows but its not until its overflowing that the engine will fire. It will run for a bit then die. We have removed the carb and cleaned it twice as well as adjusted the float until it is just about level with the bowl. Not sure what to do next. Any help would be great!

I would say that you need to readjust the float, sounds like it's not just right |

Re: Carb Issue?
Or a small peice of crud in the needle seat, a very small
chunk will keep it flowing. Pull the needle and clean your way back to a clean or new filter. |

Re: Carb Issue?
Thanks guys! Would this also be causing it to die?

Re: Carb Issue?
ok.... update, took the carb off, adjusted it and cleaned it. Put it back on and now the engine will fire after about 30 seconds of cranking. It will run good for about a minute, maybe two then seems to be flooding out. The adjustment screw on the side of the carb is exactly where the book says it should be. Not sure where to go from here. Again Thanks again for any help you can offer!!!

Re: Carb Issue?
Remove the needle thats attached to the float and check to make sure its' not damaged. If so it will let fuel by.The best thing to do is remove the carb, hold the float up(closing the needle)and lightly blow(by mouth)into the fuel-inlet port.If air is passing, then you have a bad needle/seat.When you get the flow-problem figured out, hold the carb upside-down with the bowl-surface level. The float should be parallel to it,or tipped a touch low at the edge opposite of the hinge(this works when you have a lift-kit as it tips the carb sideways and throws off the float-level).Hope this helps.

Re: Carb Issue?
Do everything that everyone suggests, then buy a new carburetor. It will be the best $100 you spend and your cart will run like new. Seriously every bush, jet and seat is 27 years old and no matter how clean you get it, it will always be past its sell by date.

Re: Carb Issue?
Ok so.... New carb came in and installed. Same issue. We took a KNOWN good plug from another cart and put it in this one. It fired up immediately. Ran it around the yard a little. Seemed fine. It was a little slow to start but once it was going it was fine. I was adjusting the brakes and backed it out of the garage and when I tried pulling it back in... it will turn oer but will not fire. Changed to a brand new plug, no luck. It has a new rear crankseal and the compression is at 100. Any ideas would be great!! Thanks
