Coil to pair with HEI module
Hello,
I just did the conversion with the Wells DR 100 module for my 1982 gas cart, but was now wanting to replace the coil , because of rough starting. There seems to be alot of choices. I was curious if this AC Delco fine. Also, what are the differences between oil-filled and not? Thankx for any help. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ACDEL...Q5fAccessories[HTML] Last edited by fingerpicker; 04-30-2011 at 12:38 PM.. Reason: left something out |

Re: Coil to pair with HEI module
that should work. the biggest diff. other than looks, is that the round oil filled must be mounted vertically. the e coil can go any which way. here are some examples of e coils.

Re: Coil to pair with HEI module
madoc1 is correct any coil that doesn't have a built in resistor will work. The coil you were looking at doesn't because Dodge used an external resistor.

Re: Coil to pair with HEI module
I ended up going with this Emgo universal coil that I found today at a ATV shop. I guess i'll have to get another one like is listed. My cart tried to turn over with engine, but would not stay cranked. I'll try to get one like in the first picture.

Re: Coil to pair with HEI module
Hello,
thanks for reply Madoc. I have been researching all around. That first one looks like a Mallory I guess. I have noticed that some have 4 terminals instead of 2. I guess if I had gotten one with 4, I would just hook the 2 terminals to the distributor terminals of Coil instead Tach terminals; that is hoping that the Coil would be labled. I found 2 like the first one on Ebay.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GM-HE...item4cf6bb112d I guess either one would work? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mallo...item4cf6bb112d Last edited by fingerpicker; 05-03-2011 at 12:47 PM.. Re: Coil to pair with HEI module
both look like the same thing and coils generally don't go bad. i would call summit and if it is marked and how many terminals. the amount does not matter if it is marked. i guess there is a way to check which is pos. or neg., but i guess my vom is not sensitive enough. i've tried.

Get the Dodge oil filled coil I listed mount it vertical and it works. I've been running it with NO problems. + is + - is - no brainier. It's not that tough.
