2000 club gas
when i push the gas pedal, i get no response. battery ok.

Check for spark if you have that check for fuel getting to the carb by pulling the fuel line at the carb and cranking it. If your fuel pump is good you'll get gas. It should seem to come in pulses (thus the name pulse fuel pump). I'm willing to bet it's one of those.

thankx for your input, but the engine will not turn over. is there a microswitch that needs to open before letting power to the starter?

There is actually a few micro switches. On the back of your shifter is a couple and if it's a DS under the driver's but in a black box that has a central screw. Your throttle cable comes out of that box.
