Whats the differance

I'm sure this question has been asked a hundred times. I apoligize for a newbe question. I'm interested in buying an ezgo cart but i'm confused. Whats the differance in a PDS,TXT,RXV, I really want a 48 volt cart and i'm only interested in ezgo's. I would really appreciate your help.

The TXT is the most ubiquitous Ez-Go golf cart out there. It comes stock as 36v but can be converted to 48v. Series, DCS, and PDS are the available drive systems of the TXT. RXV is the new model Ez-Go chassis/ body. It is available (maybe exclusively?) with a 48v drive.

What year did they start making the RXV? Also whats the cost to convert the older models to 48 volts??

I don't know what year the RXV debuted. You are looking at about $600 for a new controller and solenoid plus new batteries. Using six 8v batteries is probably the cheapest way to get it done.

Three different motor types of are/were used.
Series wound.
Sepex (SEParately EXcited) (aka: Shunt wound or Parallel wound.)
AC.

To the best of my knowledge, the RXV is the only one with an AC motor and only comes with an AC motor.

Some of the other body styles came stock with 48V in the later model years, but I don't know what year.

Do you have any particular reasons for wanting a 48V system?
Just curious.

Also, in selecting a cart, figure out what you are going to be doing with it first, and then pick the drive type best suited to build to that goal.

I'm going to use it for hunting and around the farm. I figured the 48v would have more torgue and power to go up hills and longer battery life. Please educate me if something else would suit me better. I'm all ears.

welcome snuffy. my 98 is coverted to 48v. and will do what you are looking to do. a series type cart is usually better for this type of use also. i would suggest looking in the sponsor section for scottyb's cartsunlimited site and reading up on his controller kits. if you can find a 2001 and up txt with the series type setup, with new cables a controller kit and either new batteries or 2 matched ones you will have a good cart. the 36v motor runs fine on 48v. the reason i say 2001 and up is the steering was improved then, altho mine steers just fine.
