Default Driven clutch lets belt slip

New here first post: I have a 1996 Carryall 2 and have put a new driven clutch and a severe duty belt on it. It has began to slip and will not climb hills with about 400 lbs, 2 people on it. The clutch opens all the way and it slips on the driven clutch shaft. The end of the spring is in the middle hole. Is there a way to make it get a better grip for more pulling power? Thanks and this a great forum.

When you say it slips on the driven clutch shaft, you mean the driven clutch itself is slipping on the transmission input shaft? The driven clutch uses a keyway, so if that's happening I'm suprised the cart moves at all.

No. The key is in place. Just talked with a local cart dealer. He Thinks the drive clutch is not doing its job properly. Thinks it needs a rebuild. Thanks for replying. He said he had never saw one slip unless the drive clutch was not doing its job. Will worn buttons and weights cause this?

A severely worn face on the drive clutch will cause slipping but it is obvious on the face. Worn internal parts will not normally cause the issue you describe. Do you have the heavy spring in the driven clutch? Is the belt the right width? Have you adjusted the engine to diff alignment? Also, check the motor mounts.

I've been down in the cold barn awhile checking things on the CC, The motor mounts look good. The snubber is in place and that is the only place I am able to get any movement. I think the motor in as secure as can be. However the face on the drive clutch looks as if the belt has not been running all the way to the top, It is shiny and clean except for the last 3/4 inch. Should that be clean completely to the top if the belt is making it's full trip? I have not had this thing but about 4 months. Thanks All.

I have not done anything to the alignment as it looks good to me. I have a new stock driven clutch on it with the spring that came in it. The belt looks right with a little slack. I have taken the severe duty belt off and put on a regular belt.
