Which gear upgrade for Precedent i2
As mentioned in prior thread, I am about to embark on a transformation project on my 2010 Club Car i2 Villager (4 seater and used on road only).
Stage 1 is to lift and use bigger wheels, plus change gears...This thread concerns the gears. Two things I could use some help with... 1. Do I go for 8:1 or 6:1? I am going to put bigger wheels on. Cart is for road use and I want it to be fast but not to lose too much torque up hill. Will try first with stock motor and controller then upgrade motor and controller at a later stage. 2. I have a standard 2010 Precedent i2 Villager with the Excel system. The gears I see online seem to be advertised for Precedent [1998] and up, but seem to look different. One supplier mentioned that their gear set if for the Graziano type 3 piece rear axle. Can anyone point me at the right style of gears for my cart? Thanks in advance for any help. |

Re: Which gear upgrade for Precedent i2
Can't answer your question #2, but for #1, I'd personally go 8:1 over 6:1 if I were to do it. Larger tires are already gonna make it go faster but lose torque, and the gears will just add to that. You'll probably cook your stock controller fairly quickly running larger tires plus 8:1 gears. You really need a higher amp one if you're gonna do it, especially if you haul 4 people a lot.

You should locate the electronic upgrades first.
Make sure they are available for the i2 before you go changing gears. You may have to convert to IQ system. This may be a deciding factor in your project. |

OK I understand. Lift must go on first as the new motor won't fit underneath until I so this. Thanks both.

Slobdiddy, what is the serial number for your vehicle? If you've got an Excel car you're probably gonna have to convert the wiring to IQ before you upgrade.

It's an Excel i2 Precedent Club Car 2010. I'm told the Altrax controller comes with an IQ wiring harness... I assume this will work ok?

Re: Which gear upgrade for Precedent i2
The electronics I have been offered:
Electric Motor - 170-502-0002 Controller – 500 Amp (includes IQ wiring harness) Wire Kit Complete (I think 3 gauge) Solenoid Kit w/diode, resistor, & mounting brackets w/hardware Added to this I'm now planning a 4 inch Jake's life kit plus 8:1 gear kit. This is going to cost me quite a lot so I am hoping to get this right first time. |
