If you have a meter, use it to check for your voltages, starting at the batteries, then the connectors on both sides, a meter will save you a ton of time it is easy to trace them back to the issue, also use it to check the fuses.

You had to of missed something, if you had 12 volts it would work, unless you over voltages them and Burnett it all up.

. . . when you reconnected your light's + and - connections, if the negative wire was not initially reconnected to the same battery as the positive connection, you probably sent too much voltage to the lights . . . meter the bulbs for continuity to see if they blew . . .
