Re: What is the interest in a complete lithium battery conversion kit
Agreed - the danger level in FLA batteries is very limited. Additionally they will not cause a danger if charged or discharged incorrectly unlike Lithium types.

Re: What is the interest in a complete lithium battery conversion kit
I've seen customers bring in batteries for core
charge and the whole thing except the bottom is completely burned up. Looks like a H2 pop/fire occurred and caught the plastic of the battery cell covers then the casing on fire which consumed the entire case down to the battery tray. I would hate to see the underside of the seat or other areas near that battery case fire. |

Multiply that times 100 and you have a Lithium fire.

That depends a lot on the chemistry of the lithium battery you're using.
I haven't heard of any Leaf modules exploding or catching fire. Look up the torture test videos Nick from EV Battery posted on YouTube. They can take a lot of abuse. |

Re: What is the interest in a complete lithium battery conversion kit
Leaf modules are what I use and I am sure that they would catch fire if you over charge them. They are not that different than my RC batteries. Don't get me wrong - I am very happy with my Lithium conversion - but I know what I'm doing and I have worked with Lithium batteries for 15 years or so.

I know what NCPW is reflecting to. Nick put a torch to them and several other things to demonstrate how well they were made. This does not discount what "can" occur as overcharging is dangerous, but I have seen smaller cheaper lithium's come completely apart with the test Nick performed.

Re: What is the interest in a complete lithium battery conversion kit
I had a 3000mAh 18650 battery short it self out on my work bench.
Dang thing was a flying fire missile across the shop. Managed to don a rawhide glove and get it outside. Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk |

Re: What is the interest in a complete lithium battery conversion kit
What I like about this thread is how much the cost of a lithium has come down. Four and one half years ago we were talking 3 to $4000 for a conversion. I have everything I need for my conversion and it looks like I am going to come in right at $1000. Now if I were charging someone else, my labor charge would run the price back up to 3-$4000. Forgot to mention it's a PingEye3 clone with Nissan Leaf batteries.
