What's the easiest way to get the electric motor out of a. 1998 Club Car DS 36v? Do I have to pull the body off?

jack it up un-wire the (4) nuts on the motor wire leads, there are (3) small bolts and (1) larger bolt that hold the motor on. If all goes well the motor will slide right off. If not take care in prying it off because if you stick a pry bar in there to pry it off you do not want to damage the winding by sticking the pry bar in to far between the case and the rear end.
first un-hook the main battery cables

Disconnect the battery pack first.

An older motor may not want to come off. Be Very careful with a prybar or you can end up breaking the transaxle housing.
If it doesn't want to slide off easily spray penetrating oil around the case junction to help loosen things up.
