Looking to buy!
I am wanting to buy and then build a nice off road golf cart. I currently have a late 80's EZ-Go with a custom built lift kit I put on and offroad tires. It is electric and will go through anything but I dont want to tear it up and wear the batteries out so quickly. I know they make the Kawasaki 4x4 utility vehicles, etc but I want to buy a gas powered cart and make my own roll cage, add a winch, nice lift and good travel suspension for rock and off roading. Here is my question on this:
What year, make and model cart will be the best for this kind of thing? Something that will be easy to modify the suspension on, get some more power from the engine, etc? I'd appreciate ANY info and any pictures because I'm sure some of you have done this as I have looked around on here a bit at some cool looking street ones, just haven't looked at any 4x4 or off road ones. Thanks! |

Re: Looking to buy!
You can click the link down at the bottom of my post and that will take you to the build on my cart that I'm just finishing up. I put an 18hp big block in mine from Cart Parts Plus. Tom is a great guy to do bussiness with and the motor will climb any hill.

Re: Looking to buy!
I saw the 18HP and the 24HP somewhere on that site before. How much (in total) did you get the motor for? How hard would it be to convert an electric to gas powered?

Re: Looking to buy!
The complete engine upgrade was $1799.99 plus shipping. I also added the timing advance key with mine. As far as converting an electric to gas I'm not sure on how to go about that. My guess is that you would need a new rear end at mininum.

Re: Looking to buy!
I will look for a gas powered cart and go from there then. Any specific make or model? Which have 4 strokes and which dont? Most ARE 4 strokes correct? I am guessing only old models are the 2 smokes? :D
Thanks for the answers guys! I am going to search around the next few weeks and once I find one I like, I'll buy it! |

Re: Looking to buy!
The timing advance key helps with quick throttle response. As far as I know that's all it does.
