1998 club car 48 v regen
My question is my 1998 regen club car when sitting with the run tow switch in run the battery light will blink on and off and the solenoid will click .If I switch it to tow both things stop.It doesn't effect the way the runs.My only complaint I have is that is really slow 12 mph.The battery pack is new. Thanks

What is the total voltage of your battery pack?

Occasionally with that model, the dynamic braking solenoid (the one with the wire coil) will fail in the ON position - and slow the cart a whole bunch. Its easy to tell - while driving, the coil will almost glow red-hot; so drive a little bit, then hold your hand over the coil...don't actually touch it...and see if its been getting really hot.

JoeSam is correct. Do you hear both solenoids clicking when you press on the accelerator or just one?

Re: 1998 club car 48 v regen
I'm going to assume the main solenoid is good - otherwise, I don't think your cart would running. Dynamic braking can be bypassed with a little re-wiring effort. It also depends whether you like/use dynamic braking. Dynamic braking is the gradual slowing when you lift off the accelerator at-speed - its not the roll-away braking feature; which is far more aggressive and which cuts-in when you are going much slower or when you release the park brake on a downhill; after a complete stop.
While running at top speed or going a bit downhill - I like to have it for slowing down a tad to make a corner, rather than having to apply the brakes. Many people bypass it - its a personal preference. |

Re: 1998 club car 48 v regen
I'm not sure if both click ill have to check back next weekend when I can get to the cart. I know that the regen braking is really aggressive on this cart a lot harder than the 2003 ds that we use to have .

Re: 1998 club car 48 v regen
Just guessing on my part. I think the speed sensor has not been unhooked, the left side solenoid is either stuck open or the activation circuit is failing and the coil is taking the place of the solenoid contacts thus the weak slow speed.
If you connect both cables of the left solenoid to the same side on one post this will take the solenoid out of the circuit. Then you can unhook the speed sensor and the cart will free wheel when you let off the GO pedal. This will do away with the roll away braking also. |
