Default Re: yamaha 4 stroke choke/backfiring

Heres an update. Had to change head gaskets, a pushrod, lashed valves, new carb, new carb gasket, new exhaust gasket. Put in an inline fuel filter. Still gotta take off old one at tank and clean tank out. Now it runs better and no backfire. But it seems it wont run without choke half out. Ive adjusted carb some and it has helped some bit not perfect yet. Just got it home and off my trailer and it didnt wanna move. Messed with carb again and it ran. Oh i also put in a new air filter and sealed box good. And a new fuel pump. Any thoughts? And i must be a glutton for punishment cause i picked up a 2008 club car. Great shape but thats for another thread...

hi just a thought had the same trouble with mine, found that the return spring was missing on the carb, so it wasn't shut, fitted new spring on, no problems now

For those of you that replaced the OEM Mikuni carb with the $20 Mokini, hopefully you haven't tossed the old carb. Disassembling, cleaning, and rebuilding the Yamaha carb with new OEM parts is often times much better than replacing with a china aftermarket carb.
